After coming back to Aspen to spend the day with our favorite moms and moms-to-be after Mount Meeker, we were up early and off to the Sawatch Range to ski Lackawanna Peak.
This day on Meeker sums up what the Centennial Ski Project is all about for me. Getting out with friends– some new, some old– and having fun seeing new places and skiing new summits. And based on the amount of snow we saw up high yesterday, I’m excited for the next couple of weeks.
First off let me say that the spring skiing season is in full effect in Colorado and the skiing is awesome out there right now. Coming off a wet two weeks, the mountains are coated with powder snow and much of it lies on top of a stable, frozen spring snowpack.

Four Centennial 13ers in one push– this was a great day in the mountains. It’s best summed up by the Trimble map.
After our day on Clinton and a soak at the Mount Princeton Hot Springs, four of us made our way up the Clear Creek Road towards Mount Hope. The road was dry to the Sheep Creek trailhead, and we followed the popular trail (also used in the Leadville 100 run course) up towards the East Ridge of Mount Hope.
Max Taam, Pete Gaston, and I skied Clinton Peak in powder conditions last Thursday. After an early start from Aspen, we drove to the Montgomery Reservoir Trailhead south of Hoosier Pass and started up the old mining road. The new snow from a storm the day before made conditions pretty much ideal. The map above shows the route and the photos below show the rest.
